Volt makes cross-border politics for a more effective Europe. In 31 countries Volt encourages people to rethink and shape politics at the local, national and European level.

Volt is pan-European, pragmatic and progressive. Against the backdrop of shared values and goals, Volt asks bold questions and makes actionable proposals to solve European issues.

At Volt, we connect citizens from all over Europe into a united political force to find real solutions to the challenges that no single country can solve alone.

We are a movement shaping the future for our communities, Ireland and Europe.

Our vision is a more democratic and transparent Europe that takes responsibility for us. That is why we want a united Europe with a true European democracy.

We want an effective European Parliament that can propose laws and elect a European leader who is accountable to our representatives. We want an accountable European government that acts in the interest of all Europeans to overcome problems and seize opportunities together.

Our Vision

Climate change, Covid, security and migration do not respect borders.

And neither are the solutions. Volt’s vision is that the great challenges of today can only be solved through greater European cooperation. Politics is stuck in last century solutions. Solutions for climate, migration and security

Today’s major problems do not respect national borders

In an interconnected world, Europe needs to assume its responsibility in global issues, in particular those concerning climate change, food security, public health, migration and refugee crises. In line with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we aim to take action to eradicate poverty, generate jobs, build a circular economy, ensure fair trade, secure livelihoods and build infrastructure for sustainable development and growth.

A new perspective for the economy

Covid has dealt a heavy blow to our economy. As we recover, we must not repeat the old mistakes, but look to the economy of the future.

Europe’s economies must become the engine of ecological transition and social progress and provide a decent standard of living for all. To achieve our goal, we have established three key levers: rebuilding economically competitive areas, fostering leadership in innovation, and pushing the European Union to become a “social union”. This requires innovative concepts and policies to cut red tape, strengthen the labour market, revive innovation in our economies, invest in smart and sustainable productivity, tackle unemployment, and create a more unified European social and fiscal system that promotes ecological transition.

Equal opportunities: health care, education and work

After years of job cuts, health care is on its last legs and the quality of education is declining. We want to provide equal opportunities and security for all.

Citizens and residents of the European Union must be guaranteed the same rights and opportunities. Human rights must be respected and enforced! To ensure this, we want to tackle all types of inequality and discrimination, reduce poverty and provide access to health care, education and basic needs. Most importantly, no one should be left behind! We want to close the gender gap by 2025, give everyone access to their own bodies, and end homelessness in Europe.

A modern government

21st century society demands modern government.

Governments must ensure high quality public services for their citizens and residents. Faced with challenges such as social inclusion or equal opportunities, these public services must innovate in sectors such as education, health and justice. Smart states respond to these challenges by continuously adapting themselves thanks to tools that allow them to gain in efficiency and to build a different relationship with their citizens through collaborative and transparent governance that takes into account the proposals of citizens and is accountable to them.

More participation at all levels

Citizens must have a say in what happens in their neighbourhood, their community, their region, their country and in Europe.

This challenge shows how citizens can have a more direct influence on their government, what kind of information governments should publish and how citizens can be best informed to participate in democratic life. This means that we are looking for best practices in citizen participation, transparency, ways to structure public media and safeguarding our privacy.

The European Union of the 21st century

We see European cooperation as the solution to the problems of the 21st century.

The European project has brought 70 years of peace and stability to our continent. However, the European Union has been rocked by crises and the rise of Euroscepticism. In order to build on its previous achievements, the EU Reform Team is developing (1) ways to improve the governance of the European Union by proposing a clear institutional reform path towards a unified European Union, and (2) concrete proposals for all policy areas.
